ABOUT

Open Board, Open Community

The Jacksonville Chess Club has been part of the local chess scene since the 1980s.
First located at the USO on Tallman St., the club’s reputation spread worldwide as Marines shared news of it while transferring duty stations. After several changes in the early 2000s, the club has moved locations over the years, but one thing has remained constant: we welcome players of every age and skill level. Open to all with no fees, we meet weekly for casual, social games as well as competitive play for those looking to grow.
The Jacksonville Chess Club provides a supportive environment for beginners and seasoned players alike—whether you want to learn, improve, join tournaments, or simply enjoy the game. Our club president, Sara Walsh, also volunteers her time each year to help with Onslow County Schools’ annual chess tournament, supporting youth players and the broader chess community.
Come explore the world of chess and connect with a friendly community of passionate enthusiasts.

LEADERSHIP
Meet the enthusiastic individuals who drive our club's vision and contribute to the thriving chess community in Jacksonville.
